On Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, Governor Jared Polis, along with other state agencies, announced new actions to expand Colorado’s nation-leading progress on saving people money on renewable energy and deploying lower-cost clean energy access across the state.
“Today, we are taking action to ensure that Coloradans can easily access clean energy savings, especially ones that expire soon. We continue to do all we can to make people aware of how you can reduce costs on energy bills and keep money in your pocket,” said Governor Polis.
“We want to extend our appreciation to Governor Polis for once again demonstrating his commitment and leadership in ensuring that Colorado delivers clean, affordable energy, and we encourage other states to take similar action,” said Tom Hunt, CEO, Pivot Energy. “The Governor’s executive action underscores the urgent need to accelerate the development of clean energy projects in Colorado before federal tax credits disappear.”
Polis’ announcement comes a month after President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The budget law sets a hard deadline for clean energy developers to claim federal solar and wind tax credits; projects must begin construction within a year, or begin operating by the end of 2027. The incentives were previously available through 2032.
Hunt adds, the President’s July 4th signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) has created a time of uncertainty and challenges for the entire energy industry but especially so for the renewable energy sector. The bill makes wind and solar ineligible for federal energy tax credits when our electricity grid and the economy need quick-to-deploy energy resources.
Pivot has been developing solar projects in Colorado since 2017 and currently has approximately 140 projects totaling 540 megawatts, in development in the state.
