Pivot Energy, a national solar provider, and Chaberton Energy, a Maryland-based renewable energy project developer, are pleased to announce the groundbreaking of Catherine Community Solar and Catherine Aggregate Net Energy Metering (ANEM) on May 17, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, 14196 Frederick Rd, Cooksville, MD 21723.

The projects will be located on property owned by Saint Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church.  Catherine Aggregate Net Energy Metering (ANEM) will provide power to Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, and a Behind-The-Meter project will provide power locally to Saint Mary’s Church. Overall, the projects will provide 750 kWdc of power to the University, 177 kWdc of power to the church, and 3.4 MWdc of community solar.

Attendees will include County Council Chair Ms. Christiana Rigby and Loyola University Sustainability Director Tracy Harvey. The partnership comes on the heels of a notable expansion of Maryland’s community solar options with the passing of community solar legislation in the state. These projects are one big step toward Maryland’s goal of reaching 50% renewable energy production by 2050.

“We are excited to partner with Chaberton Energy on this project, as well as several other upcoming projects in the region,” said Matt Preskenis, SVP of Strategic Partnerships at Pivot Energy. “These kinds of projects demonstrate the flexibility, diversity, and impact of solar energy in the market and in local communities. Investments like these will make Maryland a leader in clean energy.”

"We are very excited to bring these projects to fruition in our home state of Maryland,” said Stefano Ratti, CEO of Chaberton Energy.  “A tremendous amount of work from many people on our team went into these projects, and we are happy to know that our projects will be in good hands with Pivot Energy, who has the necessary financing and operational capabilities to complement our development expertise.”

True to both Pivot Energy’s and Chaberton Energy’s values and business strategies, Catherine Community Solar will benefit their respective local communities. Additionally, as demonstration of both companies’ investment in the state, Pivot and Chaberton will donate a combined $25,000 of the project funds to the Power52 Foundation, a workforce development organization dedicated to training, mentoring, removing barriers, and providing job placement assistance to at-risk individuals in the clean energy industry from Baltimore and surrounding counties.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you plan to attend/cover the event. We are happy to provide details, background, visuals or b-roll, and interviews with key representatives.
