Sigma-Aldrich

a leading Life Science and High Technology company focused on enhancing human health and safety, manufactures and distributes more than 200,000 chemicals, biochemicals, and other essential products to more than 1.4 million customers globally in research and applied labs as well as in industrial and commercial
markets.

With this delicate product, they also strive to operate at highly set sustainable standards, awarding them titles like #20 Most Sustainable Company in the World by Corporate Knights on the Global 100 at Davos and the Natural Capital Leader by Trucost and GreenBiz. Besides that, they are the only locally headquartered company in St. Louis to be recognized by CDP, Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Using third-party verification systems, Sigma-Aldrich is operating at the top for efficient Operational Excellence.

Sigma-Aldrich’s commitment to sustainability is front and center, just like their solar panels and EV charging station: Meeting society’s needs for products and services with progressively less negative impact on the world where we live and work. Sigma-Aldrich’s initiatives promote greater environmental responsibility and support energy conservation, natural resource conservation, material reuse, reduction and recycling, and the application of green chemistry into still more of their processing operations worldwide. They look forward to evaluating opportunities to partner with their customers in these important areas, and encourage suppliers to continually improve their supply operations in support of a healthier and cleaner environment. Their commitment is not just to operating sustainably themselves, but to provide a safe and sustainable product for their consumers and a healthy work environment for employees. President & CEO, Rakesh Sachdev, shares, “In 2012, we achieved a 10% intensity reduction in CO2 emissions and also made significant progress in reducing water usage in our operations. Our investments in increased water efficiency yielded another year of absolute water use reductions and an 8% improvement over our 2011 performance. All told, we have reduced our water usage by more than 500,000 cubic meters annually since 2009.

We continue investing in energy efficiency as part of our 10 Facilities Project, which reduces our energy requirements and decreases our carbon emissions to mitigate potential climate change effects. Sigma-Aldrich also became a signatory of the UN Global Compact. The UN Global Compact provides a baseline for the manner in which companies should operate in regard to human rights, Overall commitment to constant improvement leads to world-wide recognition for leadership.Top Down Commitment labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. In 2012, we introduced an enhanced tool for providing customers greater visibility into our more environmentally friendly products. This tool provides quantitative information on how we are improving the environmental footprint of our products through reformulation, while retaining superior performance and quality.

Customer Stories

"Pivot Energy is hands down one of the most committed, experienced, and easy to work with solar providers in the industry. When St. Vrain Valley School District identified opportunities to install on-site solar systems, the team at Pivot Energy provided guidance and hands-on expertise to overcome multiple obstacles and succeed in installing about 1.2 MW of total generation. At the onset, staff analyzed our data, potential savings, and solar generation and even performed utility rate analysis so we could make the most educated decisions. These services were invaluable as the district sought out buy-in from stakeholders and engage the district and town.”

Dara Ward

Energy Manager, St. Vrain Valley School District

"Our ultimate goal of providing solar power access to our residents and tenants without passing on its cost was made possible by Pivot Energy, who provided the perfect solution to our project needs."

Jonathan Alpert

Partner, Westfield Development

“We were contacted by Pivot Energy during the initial strategy on how to accomplish our goal of reducing the carbon footprint of Volunteers of America Colorado by at least 5% over the next two years. This was the gateway for Volunteers of America to not only save money to use toward our programs, but also a way to reduce our energy footprint. While we are sure there are many different companies offering similar programs, the experience we have had working with Pivot Energy has been impressive from our first interaction."

Bret Bridgewater

VP of Building Services and Safety, Volunteers of America

“Solar is now a big part of our corporate sustainability program, and part of our ongoing effort to be good corporate citizens. Generating rooftop solar energy production in lieu of using energy from carbon-emitting sources furthers this commitment and leverages a previously unused asset within our portfolio – our rooftops – and provides cost savings from reduced utility expense.”

Joe Margolis

CEO, Extra Space Storage

"Pivot Energy did everything to make this project a reality. The entire process was really easy for me as the landowner. After signing the lease, Pivot did all the work and secured the permits. And once the construction started, it was completed quickly and easily. The contractor who built the project was friendly and did a great job."
