Thanks to a partnership with Pivot Energy, Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority’s electricity will be offset by solar power before the end of 2018.
Following the execution of a 20-year community solar subscription agreement with Microgrid Energy, the Colorado Airport will have access to 1.16 MW of electricity annually from two community solar gardens–enough to power the terminal, runways, and parking lots. The environmental impact is equivalent to taking more than 7,000 cars off the road for one year. The agreement is also projected to save the Airport more than $11 million in electricity costs over the next 20 years.
“This was a simple decision,” said GJT Executive Director Angela Padalecki. “It aligns with our sustainability goals, avoids the hassle of managing our own on-site equipment, and reduces Airport operating costs. The Microgrid Energy team made the decision even easier by providing a competitive proposal and a partnering attitude.”

Microgrid Energy is building several solar gardens in Mesa and Garfield Counties in Colorado that are scheduled to be complete this summer.
